Viewing events from September, 2018
Isabel is leading the long walk next Wednesday and we are walking from Warnford, to Exton and back to Warnford. It is about 7 miles long with 4 miles before lunch and 3 miles after. There is a gradual ascent up Wheely Down and then it almost all downhill to Exton. The views are stunning, so let’s hope the weather is kind! The walking after lunch is very easy as we follow the old railway line back. Lunch is at The Bucks Head, at Corhampton, and hopefully you will have already given your menu choice to Isabel. To get to Warnford, drive to Petersfield. Follow the A272 through Stroud and Langrish. At the traffic lights at the West Meon Hut, turn left onto the A32 and go straight on until you get to Warnford with The George and Falcon Pub on the right. The grid reference is 241:641 and the postcode is SO32 3LB. Just after the pub, turn right into Lippen Lane. We should be able to park on the left by the hedge. Postcode for The Bucks Head at Corhampton is SO32 3NA.
Paul's walk will start in the car park at the top of Cocking Hill and will end up in Singleton, passing the Singleton Oil Field on the way down. We will then be catching a bus back up to Cocking Hill car park so you will need a bus pass if you have one. Lunch is booked at the Royal Oak in Midhurst. YOU MAY WISH TO LEAVE YOUR CAR IN THE ROYAL OAK CAR PARK, CATCH THE NO 60 BUS ON THE MAIN ROAD AT 9.39 TO ARRIVE AT THE COCKING/SOUTHDOWNS WAY CAR PARK AT 9.45.
Marian, Jane and Tim will be walking in London. Train will leave at 9.15 from Haslemere The distance we will be walking will be a total of around 5.1/2 miles but with sightseeing, buses, tubes and a boat ride, the return to Haslemere is unlikely to be before 7.00pm. Please make sure you have a bus pass and also a credit card (as they normally make travelling easier and cheaper). We will be visiting Borough Market, walking under Tower Bridge as well as walking in Greenwich Park, with fantastic views over the city of London. Train fare is £18.60 as a member of a group (who must travel together) - about the same as if you have a Senior Railcard. Please let Tim or Marian know if you intend to come and also if you would like to be included in the group ticket purchase. Getting to the view in Greenwich Park means climbing a hill, but there is plenty to do lower down if you wish.
Peter's Morning Walk will be in the Treyford/East Harting area, with lunch in the Three Horseshoes in Elsted. They have requested we park in the Village Hall car park (opposite side of the road) or outside the church. The walk will start from the pub car park, will be about 4.1/2 miles with undulations rather than hills! If in doubt, meet in the usual car park.
