Jennifer and Jean's walk is from Compton to Bevis's Thumb, up and over the shoulder of Apple Down, on to Up Marden before returning to Compton. The walk is approx 4.3/4 miles and lunch at The Victoria Inn, West Marden. Bevis's Thumb is supposedly the burial site of a Sussex giant who could walk to the Isle of Wight without getting his head wet. On his return he used to wash his dogs at Bosham, which is how the harbour was created. Please note, like many things seen in print nowadays, this may only be a story.....
The walk starts from the Car Park at the top of Cocking Hill and after a meander around the Downs, we end up 4.75 miles later in The Partridge in Singleton. At that point anyone can then catch a bus back to Cocking or Midhurst (don't forget your bus pass!) whilst Day Walkers can complete the course by walking a further 3.5 miles back to Cocking Hill. Looking forward to a splendid start to the year!
Isabel has a walk to set the scene for our Christmas lunch at The Rising Sun. Lunch by pre-booking only. Raffle tickets will be available on the day if you have so far missed the golden opportunity to win the big prize! The walk starts fromThe Rising Sun.
Isabel has a walk starting at Graffham church with lunch at The Unicorn. A hill is involved early on but Isabel is looking at ways to make it easier, often the best views involve a hill! About 7 miles
Tim & Jane's walk will be at Chiddingfold. Parking at the Swan Inn Car park post code GU8 4TY. Walk is about 5 miles. Chiddingfold was a renowned area for glass making in the reign of Elizabeth I, with 11 glass works in the area. We should pass the site that Ordnance Survey says is a site of an ancient glassworks, but looks very similar to an Iron works site, also a once popular feature of the area.
