Selborne and Noar Hill 10th August

THERE WILL BE A MENU AVAILABLE PRIOR TO 10.00AM IN THE CAR PARK BUT IF YOU WANT A PRIOR PEEP, GO TO www.selbornearms.co.uk/menu. Starting PROMPTLY AT 10.00am from the free car park behind "The Selborne Arms". GU34 3JR. SU7419033512. 51deg.05'46.06"N 0deg.56'30.85"W or 51.096128deg.N 0.941903deg.W. The walk takes us across open fields and some woodland, through Noar Hill nature reserve with an abundance of  wild flowers at present (and possibly a few late orchids) finally descending the zigzag. Lunch at "The Selborne Arms", they have requested we pre-order lunch before we walk. A larger walking group has pre-booked the same time as we have (12:30ish). It may be a case of first come first served. Someone will be at Midhurst car park as usual, but WE AIM TO LEAVE MIDHURST AT 9.30AM instead of the usual 9.45.

One of the most interesting chalk grassland and scrub sites in Britain, rich in flowers and butterflies Noar Hill was once the site of medieval chalk workings but is now carpeted by flowering plants growing on the chalk. The ridges, banks and hollows here provide a variety of niches that allow many different species to thrive. There are a large number of breeding butterflies (over 35 species) and over a dozen species of orchid can be found here. Thanks to www.hiwwt.org.uk/reserves/noar-hill for this information.

Day Walk 3rd August 2016

This day walk will be from the car park in Selborne to the Three Horsehoes in East Worldham. Park in the public car park behind the Selborne Arms. The food is nearly all fresh cooked, so it would be very helpful to pre-order - details are below.  For those with long memories, baked potatoes are not on the menu - new owners say they can't really be done as a quick meal!!

Morning Walk 27th July 2016

John and Trevor will be leading us for a ramble around Hawkley, starting from the Hawkley Inn. This is Peter's walk but he's indisposed that day. Co-ordinates for the start of the walk are as follows: - GU33 6NE. SU7471729107. N 51º03’23.25” W 0º56’07.05” or if you prefer N 51.056458.º W 0.935292º. The Hawkley Inn have requested we order our lunch on arrival before we walk. The walk has gradual inclines with steeper descents, if we have a lot of rain it could be muddy, there is some road walking.

Day Walk 20th July

This walk starts from the car park  near the Cowdray Coffee Shop in Easebourne. This is Marian's, June's, Linda's and Maddie's walk, originally planned for May. As the weather is so hot, it will probably be a morning walk only, ending either in the White Horse in Easebourne, or in the Tea Rooms.
