Goodwood Day Walk 11th April 2018

Marian, Linda and June led a small party of walkers from the car park in West Dean Gardens.  Then through West Dean and up into the clouds of Goodwood before dropping down for lunch at The Partridge in Singleton. After lunch it was through the Drovers Estate, some parts being a little muddy but it remained dry overhead all day, with some sun in the afternoon. Many thanks to Marian and Isabel for the photos.

Liss Morning Walk 4th April 2018

Mary's walk was a wet and windy walk around Liss. In spite of the conditions, including a few muddy tracks, everyone survived the journey and enjoyed a dry (weatherwise!) visit to the Drovers Arms in Hill Brow.

Punch Bowl non walk 28th March 2018

Tim and Jane's walk failed miserably to even start. With forecast of rain supposedly tailing off during the morning, it seemed to get heavier as time went by. We thought we could cut our losses and go to the Punch Bowl Cafe. Coffe and cake was very nice and plenty of shopping available in the cafe. The rain reduced, only to be replaced with sleety snow! As we had booked into The Three Horseshoes in Thursley, it seemed churlish not to keep our appointment. Food was very good, especially as we could order smaller portions. After a good lunch we went outside to be greeted with partly blue sky and no rain! However, it seemed time to call it a day.

West Dean Short Walk 21st March 2018

Paul led the way up to the Trundle car park from West Dean. The car park has wooden sleepers - ideal for a rest and a cup of hot drink before the descent to Lavant village.  The return was via the West Sussex Literary trail and then a car ride back to The Royal Oak in Midhurst. Weather was sunny most ot the morning, some snow was still around and the walk was about 5.3/4 miles. Many thanks to Isabel and Barbara for the photos.

Stoughton Down Day Walk 14th March 2018

Den's walk was very enjoyable with some excellent views as far as Dell Quay and the Isle of Wight. Part way up Stoughton Down was an early/middle Neolithic Age long barrow, built in the Stone Age and still there after 5,000 or 6,000 years. England was still joined to Europe only 2,500 years earlier. Another trudge up a muddy track and we reached the Devil's Humps near Bow Hill. These Bronze age barrows are mere youngsters - around 4,000 year old. After a refreshing drinks stop we headed downhill, past the edge of  Kingley Vale to lunch in the Barley Mow in Walderton. Excellent lunch before heading for Inholmes Wood on the opposite side of the valley.  We were alarmed to see a light aircraft much lower than usual, but relievd to see it had landed safely a liitle further down in Pitlands Farm. The walk was 7.65 miles with about 1000 feet of ascent.
