Henley walk on 26th August 2026

With threats of thunderstorms we gathered at The Duke of Cumberland  in Henley village for Tim and Jane's walk. Although it was quite humid during the morning we saw no sign of rain, just blue skies and sun.  After descending on the road towards Fernhurst, we quickly made a left turn into Henley Copse, following the line of the A286 road high above our heads. We turned down through to Henley Common before crossing the road into Whites Lane. We then had a bit of a trudge up the road next to Birchill Copse. Soon after Upper Lodge we should have turned left but carried on a short distance to reach our drinks spot, which had enough seating for all 15 of us, with plenty to spare. Suitably refreshed we found our way once again and travelled through Northpark Copse. There were some slightly challenging hills but fortunately we eventually found the Serpent Trail which took us downhill all the way to Verdley Edge and eventually to cross the A286 just above the Duke of Cumberland. Relieved we had seen no rain and and the walk had been mostly shaded, we were able to enjoy a splendid view over Fernhurst as far as Blackdown Hill from our table in the pub. The walk was 4 miles.
